the logos are in!

The photos and designs above are from Emma’s Easel Art Program, held at East on Thursdays at 4:00 pm.  All library locations offer free weekly programs for children, including Art in the Afternoons on Thursdays at RPL Headquarters (Salisbury) and Art with Char on Wednesdays at South Rowan Regional (China Grove).  Visit www.rowanpubliclibrary.org for a complete list of special programs for children and adults.

AR reading lists

The Library will not be renewing our Read The Books AR Reading service when the subscription runs out in July.  This means that after July 1st when you go to search the library catalog, you will no longer see “AR Reading List” on the top menu bar.  I have checked with the elementary school media coordinators to see if any schools utilize this list/service and no one has responded that they do.  I have not yet notified them that our subscription will end in July.

WHY?  Because…….

COMING VERY SOON:  when you search for books in the catalog, you will be able to see the books Lexile and/or Accelerated Reader (AR) number as part of the catalog record.
  • Lexile/AR data will be based on the item’s ISBN number
  • It appears that we will be able to search by AR Reading Level or Lexile Measure
  • If an item does not have reading level data in the record, then it will not come up when if you are searching by AR Reading Level or Lexile Measure

emma's easel participants help rebrand Rowan!

Emma helps a young artist with supplies
As part of Emma’s Easel art class, children learned the basics of graphic design and came up with their best impressions of what Rowan County's new logo should look like. Some of the features on the logos created during the art class included a horse, bird, bear and a shield that includes a cross and trees.  Check out the full article from Friday's Salisbury Post here and stay tuned for some of the students' designs, which will appear in the next edition of The Loop.  Way to go, Emma!

seussified celebrations of magnanimous magnanimity

It's been a grand celebration of Seuss this week, with East Branch kicking off our Seussified Celebrations on Saturday, February 28th.

Check out what a few of our honorary 'cats in hats' had to say about their favorite Seuss characters...

(permission was obtained from parents for sharing photos and videos)

Don't forget to continue spreading the word about "Let's Get Seussical" at South on Friday at 2:00 pm!

emma's easel

Emma's Easel was featured in this month's edition of The Loop
Unfortunately her lesson on graphic design was postponed
due to the snow, but she's looking forward to teaching the basics
of graphic design this Thursday and will hopefully get some great
ideas for a new Rowan County logo from her participants.
Can't wait to see what they come up with.  Way to go, Emma!
