Guide Info:

All guides will be given a packet with their responsibilities, storytelling schedule, and a park map at the festival.

Please meet your assigned classes at the Bus Check-in located at the entrance.  Your primary responsibility will be to make sure your assigned classes get to the right shelter (the color of your shirt) to listen to two storytellers for 45 minutes – 50 minutes.

You will stay with your assigned class group until their story session is over and then you will walk them to the amphitheater to listen to feature teller Tom Lee.  If you are assigned to two sessions report back to the buses after walking your group to the amphitheater to meet your next group

If a group arrives to play or eat before their storytelling session meet them at the playground area at least 15 minutes prior to their designated time to escort them to their storytelling site.

Lunch:  Will be provided for staff, volunteers and storytellers at the park thanks to the Friends of the Library.

Let’s hope for a beautiful day!!!

The photos and designs above are from Emma’s Easel Art Program, held at East on Thursdays at 4:00 pm.  All library locations offer free weekly programs for children, including Art in the Afternoons on Thursdays at RPL Headquarters (Salisbury) and Art with Char on Wednesdays at South Rowan Regional (China Grove).  Visit www.rowanpubliclibrary.org for a complete list of special programs for children and adults.

AR reading lists

The Library will not be renewing our Read The Books AR Reading service when the subscription runs out in July.  This means that after July 1st when you go to search the library catalog, you will no longer see “AR Reading List” on the top menu bar.  I have checked with the elementary school media coordinators to see if any schools utilize this list/service and no one has responded that they do.  I have not yet notified them that our subscription will end in July.

WHY?  Because…….

COMING VERY SOON:  when you search for books in the catalog, you will be able to see the books Lexile and/or Accelerated Reader (AR) number as part of the catalog record.
  • Lexile/AR data will be based on the item’s ISBN number
  • It appears that we will be able to search by AR Reading Level or Lexile Measure
  • If an item does not have reading level data in the record, then it will not come up when if you are searching by AR Reading Level or Lexile Measure
